Whenever you receive a new University computer running Windows, it is imperative that you follow the following instructions to set your default documents folder to be your H: network drive. Failure to do so could lead to you being unable to access saved files from another computer or losing data if your University computer malfunctions.
If you don't see a Documents folder under the Libraries folder, then click the small triangle next to "Libraries" in the left pane to expand the folder. Next, select the Auto Save tab, and there you can choose OneDrive for desktop items, your new documents, and pictures to save automatically. Under PC settings, select OneDrive. Click the Unlink OneDrive button under the Account tab.
Launch File Explorer. Navigate to and select the OneDrive folder. Click the Move to button on the Home tab. Select Choose location. Select the new location and click Move. To set OneDrive as your default location to save your documents and files, follow these steps: Click the OneDrive icon in the notification area. Click the menu button three-dots in the top-right corner. Select the Settings option. Click the Auto Save tab. You can also drag and drop files into the external hard drive.
If you plug in an external hard drive, it usually opens in Finder. Highlight your files, click and hold them, and then drag and drop them into the new drive you plugged in.
