After 90 days, the marriage license will expire. When couples have a regular San Mateo marriage license, they can be married anywhere in the state of California. When couples have a confidential marriage license, they must be married within San Mateo County. There are many persons that are authorized to officiate at wedding ceremonies in Redwood City. Couples may choose to invite a priest, minister, or rabbi from any religious denomination, a judge, a commissioner or assistant commissioner from the California judicial system, a current mayor, or any other authorized person to perform their wedding ceremony.

Once you have received the marriage license, you must perform a marriage ceremony while the license is still valid. After the ceremony, your officiant and witnesses must sign the marriage certificate and the officiant must return it to the issuing Clerk's Office.
You will need to visit the County Clerk's Office to apply for the marriage license. Both members of the couple must provide proof of age, valid photo identifications, and pay a fee. Certain counties require a birth certificate. The preferred payment method is cash, but many counties process payments by alternative methods.
